Buddh-ish.

Call it a mid-life crisis, but I've been on a major Buddhism kick of late. To be fair, I've loosely followed the teachings of Buddhism in a secular fashion for a long time, and I've been sitting my butt down on a pillow every morning for years for some mindfulness meditation before my morning cuppa. I'm not a Buddhist, but I am Buddh-ish.
Buddhism is great because (at least, from a secular view of the core teachings) it's not trying to get you to believe anything per se. At it's core, Buddhism is simply presenting some testable observations about the human mind and condition - almost like a "subjective empiricism" - and offering practical strategies to manage the challenges we face in life. As a person who values science and empiricism, the Buddhist approach has a certain "home-y" feel to it, and I think it speaks volumes that many core Buddhist teachings have leaked into popular culture and psychology.
A lot of it just sorta works, ya know?
If you want a short, easy, and fantastic resource, check out the Secular Buddhism Podcast by Noah Rasheta. I can't say enough good about it, and I think Rasheta seems genuine in his intention to make the world a little better, in his own way.
Until next time!
